Evaluation - Question 4
Who would be the audience for your media product?
How does your magazine target the market demographic?
My media product targets my age target as I use both teen models and an adult so my magazine does not exclude a particular age group. My front cover is when I use an adult, this might seem intimidating for younger customers as they may feel it is not for their age group but in the contents page I use a teen to avoid this happening. My magazine targets both females and males however because I used all females on all 3 of my products it might avoid males to buy this product, so in order to avoid this I used stereotypical male colors such as red and black to avoid males not purchasing my product so my magazine would not be gendered. I do not have a specific ethnicity target however by using existing magazines from the 90's, r&b was mostly listened too and would appear on magazines cover as being Black- American, however on my magazine I used Hispanics as it does not matter what ethnicity you are. I also targeted young girls and young female adults by the use of mise-en-scene on the model of both my contents and front cover as they were both wearing makeup. Makeup is stereotypically associated with females and that this is what makes them feminine. I deliberately applied makeup on my models so females can also connect and relate to the magazine. The models I used were also both young which suggests to my target audience that the magazine is specifically made for them.
Can you create a consumer profile for your magazine?
My ideal consumer profile would be an individual who is interested in old school hits and may also dress in a similar manner as they would in the 90's. However, I believe that adults who were teenagers in the 90's may have more of a passion for the music as they lived their teenage years in the 90's rather than a teen who was not brought up in the 90's but this gives them a chance to explore more about the 90's. From the primary data I found in my class I found that 80% of the class listen to music for more than 3 hours a day, this shows that teenagers tend to spend a lot of time on exploring music on their phones. So in this case an app with old school hits would work extremely well as people could find music more specific to the genre easier. Despite most people both dressing and listening to a specific music genre, they do not have to dress a particular way to also listen to old school music.
My target audience is towards the youth of ages
approximately 14 years and above, my target audience does not have a
specific age as I wanted it to open to a wide range of people, however
young adults and adults are also part of my target audience as they may
have been teenagers in the 90's and have experienced all the songs and
magazines that were published at the time, this may encourage them to purchase
my media product. My audience would most likely enjoy and are passionate about
90's r&b music, especially the top hits, and a true fan would be able to
know almost all of the songs. In my opinion my audience would also conform to
the dress style of "old school" or "90's" as this may be
the way that they express themselves along with listening to music form this
time period. On the other hand, just because my magazine is 90's r&b based
it does not mean that my audience have to conform to the dress style as they
may just enjoy the music. From my research I noticed that most models are young
adults or the youth overall, this shows that not only did I aim for this age
group but also existing professional magazines.
